Drawings of the Mysterious:

The enigmas of our planet and what lies beyond are inspiring and ineffable. In this series, I seek to create works that question perceptions and assumptions. The mysterious can take us to other places and times. It creates space, where dreams are actualized, expanding human experiences. These works are inspired from the ordinary however, their context is reimagined and reframed instilling visions of other worldly places.

For example, in the works Resilience, Padma and Sinuous Sky questions arise such as, where is this place? Is this real? what is it? and where can I find it? In others, such as Palisade, Abiding and Liminal, the subject hints at its origin without revealing specifics, as a means evoking the unknown.

The mysterious quality of each work is achieved through exaggeration, color, uncommon perspective and contrast. Using these techniques contribute to enhancing mystery and speculation.

Drawings of Atmospheres:

In this series, drawings are inspired from topographies, sky, water and vegetation, where the intersection between form, light, texture and material create unique phenomenal experiences. For example, in the work Benevolence, rock formations of Sandstone, eroded through wind and water leave behind intense colors that interact with light and shadow. In the work Remembrances sand cliffs in Washington State eroded by wind, leave traces of what seem like fossilized creatures. In Convergences, the movement and currents in the sky are mirrored by the currents of the ocean, or is it the other way around? The works of vegetation are “snapshots” or glimpses of elements. For example, in the work Armature, the decaying structure of the Saguaro is shown without its context to emphasize its transformation. Other works such as Sundancing appear literal however, upon further examination there are elements of surprise adding secondary and tertiary layers.

The work of each series is intended to slow the mind, to question perceptions and to inspire and “see” the experiences and phenomena of our life.
